The gear that is connected to end of a fishing line is called terminal tackle.  This would include, hooks, swivels, sinkers, floats, snaps, beads, spoons, blades, spinners and clevises, which attach spinner blades to fishing lures.  Fishing tackle can be connected to fishing techniques.  Since fishing tackle is the physical equipment that is used when fishing, fishing techniques is the manner in which the tackle is used when fishing, they go hand in hand.

The word tackle means, apparatus for fishing.  This term has been around since 1398. Fishing tackle can also be called fishing gear. The term fishing gear is usually used in commercial fishing.  The term fishing tackle is used when it comes to recreational fishing, they both mean the equipment used while fishing.

A fishing line is a cord that is designed for fishing.  The earliest lines were made from plant stalk or leaves.  Later on they derived from horsehair or silk. Modern day lines are now made from artificial substances, such as, Dacron, nylon, and dyneema.  The most common type of fishing line made is monofilament, which is made of a single strand.  Fishermen usually use monofilament line because of its characteristics and its strength.

Sinkers are often simply called weights, because that is what they are.  They are a weight that is attached to the line that helps to cast the bait or lure.  Lures are artificial bait that fisherman use to trick their target fish to bite it.  Lures resemble, fish, insects, shrimp, and a variety bottom feeders and animals.  They have hooks hidden inside of them to snag the fish when it bites it.  There are big and small sinkers and lures out there.  They are both designed for multiple kinds of fishing poles and fishes.
The common phrase, “Hook, line and sinker,” is a common phrase used in the everyday world, but it is a combination to tackle that empowers a fisherman to catch a fish.  Hooks are one thing that everyone relates to fishing.  It is very rare to see a tackle box without any hooks inside of it.  Hooks have been around for centuries, they used to be made form animal bone, or wood.  Nowadays they are typically made from stainless steel.  They are the device used to snag a fish in the mouth and sometimes the body.  The sizes and shapes of hooks depend on many different variables.  Smaller hooks are made to catch smaller breeds of fish, just as bigger hooks are for bigger fishes.
