Fly Rods- These rods are flexible and designed to cast an artificial fly. They typically consist of a hook that is surrounded by fur or feathers. They used to be made of split bamboo but nowadays are designed form man made materials, such as, graphite boron, or fiberglass. Split bamboo is the most beautiful to the human eye but they break the easiest. Each rod is sized to the fish that the owner is using it to catch. The bigger the fish to be caught is the bigger the flies and line will be.
Tenkara rods- These rods are primarily used for tenkara fishing in Japan. They are combined with, carbon rods, telescopic rods and fly rods. Tenkara rods are extremely light and easily transported. Their length is usually between eleven to thirteen feet. Tenkara rods are all equipped with corks and some even have wooden handles; they resemble fly rods with these two features. The Tenkara rods that have wooden handles are a better quality fishing pole because of their sensitivity to fish bites. Tenkara is a fixed line fishing method, this means that there is no reel used. The line is tied to the tip of the rod giving it precise positioning of the fly. This way of fishing can give a fisherman huge quantities of fish if used correctly.
Spinning Rods- Spinning rods are most commonly created using fiberglass or graphite with a foam handle or cork. The length of them is usually between five and nine feet. They contain five to eight diameter guides along the underside of the rod. These diameter guides help to control the line. They are different from bait casting and spin casting rods because the spinning reel is attached beneath the rod instead of being on top. It is held in place by a sliding reel seat. The fisherman’s second and third fingers straddle the reel where it attached to the reel seat on the rod. By doing this, the weight of the reel hangs beneath the rod; this makes a comfortable way to fish for long periods of time.
There are more types of rods out there, but the above-mentioned are among the most common. A person should consider what types of fish they wish to catch and where they will be doing the most fishing, before they purchase their fishing rod. Fishing can be done for fun or for sport. Either way a good stable fishing rod will be needed.
